Soundtracks have long been a bastion of romantic songs. Can you imagine your favorite screen romance, without the perfect song playing in the background? A score is the quintessential ingredient to creating the sweeping ambiance that catapults an on-screen love story to the next level. So when it came to compiling a list of the best romantic songs from movies, and TV, the choices felt obvious.

Luckily, Spotify has a lush catalogue to choose from. While it would be great to see the soundtracks for “The Young Victoria,” and 2004’s “North & South,” join Spotify’s stream, there are more than a few songs to choose from. Eclectic Pop has curated a playlist of 30 songs that represent the very best in cinematic soundtracks.

Included on the playlist is legendary composer, John Williams’ score for Ron Howard’s magnificent film, “Far and Away” (pictured above). As well as Enya’s theme song for the movie, “Book of Days.”

Other Featured Soundtracks Include...

Craig Armstrong’s enchanting score for 2015’s “Far from the Madding Crowd” makes three entries. While music from late composer James Horner, makes two appearances on the list, once for the love theme from “Titanic,” and again for “The Mask of Zorro” theme song.

Max Richter’s poignant score for “Testament of Youth,” and Shigeru Umebayash’s rousing compositions for “House of Flying Daggers,” both make dual entries on the playlist. All are essential components to the masterful films they compliment.

Songs from the “Fifty Shades of Grey” franchise land on the playlist, three times. Among them are The Weeknd’s “Earned It,” Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do,” and Taylor Swift, and Zayn Malik’s sexy duet “I Don’t Wanna Live Forever” from “Fifty Shades Darker.”

Classic duets from animated favorites’ “Beauty and the Beast,” and “Aladdin” also make the list. Personally, the latter film’s wondrous duet, “A Whole New World,” is the gold standard when it comes to love songs from animated Disney movies. Speaking of duets, Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor’s stirring collaboration from “Moulin Rouge” (“Come What May”) also appears on the playlist.

As for Television...

When it comes to television, there is no series more romantic than BBC/PBS Masterpiece’s “Poldark.” Included on Eclectic Pop’s playlist is “I’d Pluck a Fair Rose,” “Love of My Life,” and “The Blue Dress.” All are significant musical entries for “Poldark’s” central couple and each of them are stunning.
