Top 10 Most-Read Posts of October 2017

After a month-long hiatus, Eclectic Pop’s monthly feature revealing the Top 10 Most-Read Posts on the site has returned. As we fall into winter, a myriad of new, and returning television shows have already tinged the air with excitement.

September gave us the return of ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and NBC’s “The Blacklist.” While October marked the final full month fans will have to wait for Taylor Swift’s new album ‘Reputation’ and Netflix’s release of “The Punisher.”

For Eclectic Pop, October meant a lot of movie reviews and sharing its scary movie list on social media. So what content came out on top? Let’s find out…

Top 10 Highlight:

--Taylor Swift’s new album drops November 10 and if you are interested in listening to some of what she has released from ‘Reputation,” Eclectic Pop’s latest Spotify playlist has you covered. The songs “Look What You Just Made Me Do,” “…Ready for It?,” and “Gorgeous” are all featured. If these songs and “Call It What You Want” are any indication, Swift’s new record has been worth the wait.

--There are a lot of movies to choose from on Netflix and one that is definitely worth watching is "Security" starring Antonio Banderas. It is a fun, action-riddled ride that has as its centerpiece a strong performance by Banderas and the supporting cast, which includes Ben Kingsley.

--Ever since Eclectic Pop began, there had been a goal to publish a review of Joe Wright’s ambitious adaptation of “Anna Karenina” starring Keira Knightley. This aspiration was finally achieved in October and the result is a review that tends to tackle the story at the center of the film, as opposed to the movie-making. Despite that tilt and after a great deal of personal debate, the review ended up in a way that felt right.

--If there has been one feature that has had a slow, yet consistent readership, it has been the comparative review of the film “The Young Victoria” and the first season of the ITV/PBS Masterpiece series “Victoria.” Season 2 is set to debut in the U.S. on PBS Masterpiece; January 14, 2018.

Having enjoyed both the film and the series’ interestingly nuanced take on the storied monarch and her equally iconic relationship with husband, Prince Albert, a comparative review felt like the right route to take. Few subjects have elicited as much post-viewing historical research as they have and that is a testament to how the film and the series captured them.

Special Mention:

If you love costume dramas, as much as yours truly, then Russia’s “Ekaterina: The Rise of Catherine the Great” will satisfy your craving. This series is so spellbinding that the review pretty much wrote itself. It is series like “Ekaterina,” which demonstrate why streaming networks are so beneficial for entertainment fans.

They give a platform to international series so other parts of the world can see what they otherwise may have missed. “Ekaterina” is currently streaming on Amazon Prime and it if it is not already, it would make a prime addition to your watchlist.

Fun Fact Stats:

-The “Sadece Sen” review continues its Top 10 streak. October marks its seventh consecutive appearance.
