Top 5 Most-Read Posts of 2017

So long 2017! This is Eclectic Pop’s last end-of-the-year wrap-up post, so hold on and enjoy. In a highly competitive Top 5, posts about a pop music queen, an actual queen, and an empress, ruled reader interest. In true Eclectic Pop form, the Top 5 is comprised of eclectic selections. There are two (2) movie reviews, one (1) music feature, one (1) TV review, and one TV/movie hybrid feature.

It will be fun to see what 2018 holds for Eclectic Pop. With the second season of “Victoria” currently airing on PBS and Season 2 of “Ekaterina” hopefully arriving on Amazon Prime, sometime soon, a lot of popular topics in 2017 should also be relevant in 2018. Here’s to finding out together!

Highlights

When “Ekaterina: The Rise of Catherine the Great” premiered on Amazon Prime in 2017, yours truly was immediately hooked. The series’ ten episodes flew by thanks to its swift storytelling and compelling performances.

Something regrettably not mentioned in Eclectic Pop's Season 1 review that merits a fond mention is the series’ music. Nikolai Rostov’s magnificent and stirring score immediately transports viewers to the cutthroat thrills and heartfelt chills of Ekaterina’s world. Have you been transported yet?

In the midst of watching the first season of “Victoria” on PBS, I also watched the enchanting 2009 film “The Young Victoria.” While both dramatizations are absolutely marvelous, “The Young Victoria” holds a particularly soft spot in my heart. Director Jean-Marc Vallee received massive praise for his adaptation of "Big Little Lies" in 2017, however, "The Young Victoria" remains his best work, in my opinion.

To decide which dramatized take on Queen Victoria's early life you prefer, you can stream “The Young Victoria” on Netflix and “Victoria” Season 1 on Amazon Prime. You can stream episodes of "Victoria" Season 2 on PBS’ website. The season premiere and Episode 2 are currently available. According to the site, Episode 1 will expire January 28 at 11:55 p.m. EST.

“The Getaway Plan” is a fun thriller, currently streaming on Netflix. It stars Alain Hernandez as an expert thief who’s recruited for a high stakes job by the Russian mob.

Hernandez’s performance and the film’s ending made “The Getaway Plan” one of the more memorable films of 2017, so it’s nice to see that the review was popular with readers.
