Taylor Swift's 'Reputation' Shines In Eclectic Spotify Playlist

The Spotify playlists presented by Eclectic Pop have traditionally centered on a particular theme and this one will not. The sole focus here is to create a fun and contemplative mood. This selection includes chart-toppers and showstoppers, while ballads take center stage. Would it really be a playlist on Eclectic Pop, if it were not "eclectic?" Exactly.

There is new music from Taylor Swift (pictured above), as well as songs from movie and television soundtracks. After a 3-year absence, she's back, and after a 3-month absence, Eclectic Pop is back with a new playlist. Here's everything you need to know about it...

How many songs are there?

There are 31 songs in total. One important thing to note is that after the Dave Matthews Band song “You and Me” ends, there is a pause of silence before a music-only section plays. So when you hear a gap of silence between songs, stay tuned because there is nothing wrong with your player. The song just isn't over yet.

Featured Artist

As an artist, Taylor Swift has never been one for repeating herself. For Swift, a new album traditionally paves the way for a whole new sound, look, and mystique.

One of the first songs released from her sixth studio album 'Reputation' is "...Ready For It?," which Swift covers fresh musical ground on. It is edgy, smooth, and vibrant. Are you "ready for it?"

If not, prepare for "Gorgeous." Of all the songs from the album, it is the most in sync with Taylor Swift's traditional sound and the "reputation" she has established for effusive lyrics and addictive melodies. Find out what other songs from the album made the cut of highlights by checking out the playlist.

Personal Favorites

- Ciara’s riveting cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It, Black” is featured on the soundtrack of the entertaining 2015 film “The Last Witch Hunter.” Powerful vocals and a theatrical arrangement breathe new life into the classic. In 2015, Eclectic Pop proclaimed Ciara’s version the “best cover” of the year.

- Lady Gaga’s beautiful ballad “A Million Reasons” shows off the pop sensation’s gift for singing sentimental songs that showcase her raw vocal talent. “A Million Reasons” follows in the vein of her previous slow-song endeavors; “Brown Eyes” and “Speechless,” only with a more stripped down and intimate sound.

- A Great Big World is well-known for their powerful duet with Christina Aguilera (“Say Something”) and while that is a great song, the indie duo’s debut album (‘Is There Anybody Out There?’) contains even more of them. “Already Home” and “I Don’t Wanna Love Somebody Else” are equally compelling ballads.

Soundtracks

Included on the playlist are songs from the soundtracks for “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children." There are also two songs from video game soundtracks; “Child of Light” and “Final Fantasy XV,” as well as two from the “Game of Thrones” Season 6 soundtrack.

If that is not enough theatricality for you, E.S. Posthumus’s “Unstoppable” is also on the list. If the song sounds familiar, it has been featured in several movie trailers.

Playlist Trivia

Florence + The Machine’s moving “Wish You Were Here” and A Great Big World’s “Already Home” provide lyrical symmetry as both songs lament a longing for home, and the loved ones, who reside there.

“Game of Thrones” composer Ramin Djawadi composed an instrumental cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Paint It, Black” for the “Westworld” soundtrack. Ciara’s version, which is featured on Eclectic Pop’s playlist, made its debut on “The Last Witch Hunter” soundtrack.

The fantasy film stars Vin Diesel and actress Rose Leslie. Leslie memorably starred in the fourth season of “Game of Thrones” as Wildling warrior, Ygritte.
