Writing About: 'Game of Thrones' Season 7 & The Starks

“Game of Thrones” has always been the source of a tremendous amount of writing inspiration and that has only increased with Season 7. The HBO hit is one of the few series you can constantly speculate about, without the risk of getting bored, or worse, left wordless.

Thanks to its labyrinth of characters and myriad of storylines, you can write about hundreds of themes without ever stepping outside the “Game of Thrones” universe. While every character and story have their merits, House Stark is where this “Game of Thrones” fan’s heart, truly lies.

This family has been near the top and at the absolute bottom. The wait for their triumphant return was arduous, albeit rewarding when it finally arrived. As Season 6 saw the Stark siblings finally claim a huge victory with the retaking of their ancestral home from House Bolton, while also exacting personal revenge against its evil leader, Ramsay.

It was great to be a Stark fan in Season 6. Let’s hope Season 7 continues the streak. This is what I have been writing about “Game of Thrones” Season 7 and the Starks. The links to read are in blue.

Writing about the Starks in Season 7

The Starks have been to hell and back. So it is reasonable that many fans (yours truly included) are desperate to see the siblings reunite. Who will they be when that occurs? What of the Stark direwolves

Will Arya reunite with her entire family? What impact will her older sister Sansa, the first Stark to lose their direwolf to death, have on where the fractured family finds themselves in Season 7?

With Sansa careening towards the edge of a possibly life-altering season, it merits theorizing. Why is Sansa so upset in the second trailer for Season 7? Does it have to do with one of her siblings? Did “Dark Sansa” already take over in Season 6 and betray Jon

What of Sansa’s connection to the Lannisters? She was/is married to one and was mentored by another. Is Sansa the “younger queen” from Cersei’s prophecy? Are Sansa and Tyrion destined to end up together? As you can probably tell by the highlighted text, theories on all of those questions are available to read on the Inquisitr

If you believe in that next to last theory and the one about Jon Snow being the “little brother” from Cersei’s prophecy, then the Starks may play a significant role in Cersei’s ultimate downfall. It would only be fitting. The Starks have been one of the greatest casualties of Cersei’s cruelty.

Between-the-lines of writing about Sansa Stark

Sansa is one of the most fun “Game of Thrones” characters to write about. In one episode, she’s emotionally rushing into her brother’s arms and the next she’s keeping secrets and outright lying to him. Then she watches him get nearly crushed-to-death by an army with nary an expression on her face.

Because of that, it came as no surprise that she was involved in one of the most buzzed about moments from the Season 6 finale. Speculation regarding that seismic glance she exchanged with her sinister mentor, Littlefinger, has not let up.

It is her confounding behavior that makes Sansa so… fascinating. Because she is so enigmatic, she is a compelling figure to write speculative pieces on. Whose side is she on? Sansa Stark is a mystery and it will be interesting to see how her story unfolds in Season 7.

One thing is definite; she will certainly earn some ink as it happens. In case you missed it, my case for why Sansa Stark should never rule Winterfell, or anywhere else, is on Hidden Remote.
