Twitter's Most Mentioned 'Game Of Thrones' Characters Post-Trailer Were Surprising

The trailer for “Game of Thrones” Season 8 aka the final season finally arrived. As expected, those on Twitter were super excited about it. What was not as expected is which characters were the most mentioned following the trailer’s release. It is not so much the who, as much as how they ranked in the Top 5 that offers a thrilling and unexpected window into who has fans buzzing the most.

Twitter has revealed the surprising official results via email. Let’s start with the #5 "Game of Thrones" character and make our way to #1. First up:

#5: Daenerys

That’s right, the Mother of Dragons was not the most mentioned “Game of Thrones” character. This is somewhat surprising considering Daenerys’ spot in the pop culture pantheon. However, Daenerys does not do as much as the other characters that made the cut, so that may explain it.

One Daenerys moment worth noting is that while Jon Snow appears moody in a scene later in the trailer, she still looks pretty into him. Is she not planning to let the fact they are related stop her from pursuing him? If the look on Jon's face is any indication, it is a deal breaker for the Stark + Targaryen.

#4: Jon Snow

“Game of Thrones” fans learned for certain that Jon Snow is the rightful heir to the Iron Throne and not Daenerys in the Season 7 finale. The trailer does not give away him learning that knowledge. Regardless, there is a lot for fans to chat about when it comes to the show’s broody protagonist.

In the trailer, Jon can be seen standing near the weirwood trees at Winterfell and hanging out in the tunnels under the Stark's ancestral home. He even rages into battle at one point.

What is Jon so angsty about? Does he know the truth during those select scenes at Winterfell? Both areas have connections to Jon’s past so it would make sense that he may have potentially gone there to reflect further, following the bombshell revelation of his true biological origins. See? Lots to talk about.

#3: Sansa

Again, this is a bit of a surprising entry, albeit not entirely. Sansa does have a lot of big moments by way of her compelling facial expressions. Otherwise, she like many others is left without a big line.

Sansa has been among the most heavily featured “Game of Thrones” characters in the lead-up to the trailer’s release. Fans are clearly curious about what will happen to the most speculation-inducing Stark.

#2: Arya

The younger Stark sister’s second-place finish is one of the least surprising finishes of Twitter’s most mentioned. Arya starts out the trailer and is arguably the most seen character out of the ensemble. She is trying to catch her breath at the beginning before she makes a mad dash somewhere. Have the White Walkers cornered her?

While it is hard to tell given the lighting, she appears to have a lot of blood on her face and clothes. The White Walkers do not ooze that life liquid, so it is not theirs. Whose could it be then? It is a scary question.

#1: Cersei

Taking the top spot is none other than the reigning Queen of the Seven Kingdoms – Cersei Lannister. It is easy to understand why she is the most mentioned character. Cersei gives off many great looks in the trailer, and her fate is one of the hardest to figure coming into the final season of “Game of Thrones.”

Cersei is still hanging out in King’s Landing, so she should not be involved in the White Walker invasion storyline. Her expression from the 1:05 to the 1:08 mark is enough to fill numerous theory posts.

What is on her mind? Has the rightful heir come to claim the Iron Throne? She looks emotional. As if reconciling a fact, she does not want to face. Just a thought though. Here are a few more.

Final Takeaways

Three out of the five spots on the most mentioned are taken by members of House Stark. As a massive fan of the family, this is exciting news.

Shockingly, neither Tyrion or Jaime Lannister made it into the top five. Considering that Tyrion had one of the best expressions and Jaime, one of the most telling lines, that is more than a bit surprising.

The music in the trailer is also superb! "Game of Thrones" will forever have one of the greatest soundtracks television has ever heard.

Another takeaway is that this is the last time a trailer for “Game of Thrones” will get everyone this excited. Relish these moments.

The eighth and final season of “Game of Thrones” premieres Sunday, April 14 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO. Going to cry now.
