Top 20 Most-Read Posts of 2015

Eclectic Pop completes its look back at the popular content of 2015 with the reveal of its Top 20 most read articles of the year. Movies, music and television converge for a final tally that yields intriguing results. So which topic came out on top?

Television ruled the roost, driving over half of the list. Movie coverage followed with music coming in third place overall. Proving that last is certainly not least, the #1 most read article of the year was a music post: 2014’s year end list special, Best of Music in 2014. In all fairness to the music side of the equation, it had about a third of the newly generated content; television and movies did. Hence the lack of a most-read music list for 2015.

As had been stated in the analysis of popular movie and television articles; reviews for Oscar nominated movies, CW and HBO programming; along with the hit series “Pretty Little Liars” garnered a lot of the attention. The Eclectic Selection playlists for #RKC also proved to be a big draw, landing at #17 and #9.

For the second year in a row, Eclectic Pop recapped the Cannes Film Festival and the result was a burning questions feature that easily breached the Top 10, coming in at #12.

Interesting to note is that Eclectic Pop’s review of “Mad Max: Fury Road” didn’t make it into the Top 20 but its scathing companion piece ‘The Top 5 Problems with Mad Max: Fury Road’ readily seared its way into the Top 15. That was not the only critical feature to do well either.

With the addition of the new 2015 feature ‘Top 5’, Eclectic Pop similarly critiqued the second season finale of “True Detective”; a piece that easily found itself in the Top 5. While an examination of suggested improvements to “Dancing with the Stars” landed at the #15 spot.

When it came to which special feature was the most popular, it was a tight race. The TV Rundown easily topped the competition representing 25% of the Top 20. While the features Let’s Talk About… and Top 5 each accounted for 15%. However, if you count the hybrid post ‘Let’s Talk About…the Top 5 Emmy Snubs’ as a Top 5 feature that number jumps to 20%.

The old faithful content staple: movie reviews, continued its enduring popularity; representing 20% of the list. The TV Report Card only made it into the Top 20 once with the review of “Reign’s” second season. The other 20 or so percent of the list included special features such as the posts detailing the seventh and eighth Eclectic Selection playlists for #RKC and the aforementioned recap of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.

All in all it was an exciting year for entertainment and 2016 looks to be just as eventful so stay tuned! As always, thanks for reading. You can check out the entire Top 20 below…
