Let's Discuss: 'The Protector' Season 1 And Season 2's Netflix Release Date

The Protector Hakan Çagatay Ulusoy Netflix

“The Protector” is heading back to Netflix for its second season. Usually, streaming viewers have to wait more than a year for a series’ follow-up installment. Thankfully, those who binged the action/adventure/superhero series back in December are not having to endure such a delay.

Season 2 will premiere on April 26, 2019, on Netflix. Hence, finding out what will come next for Hakan (Çagatay Ulusoy) and company is closer than ever before. If you have not watched yet and are curious about “The Protector.” Here is a quick rundown.

Hakan is an ambitious young person living in modern Istanbul when he learns that he has vital ties to an ancient secret order. Thus, making him “The Protector.” After discovering this, he soon learns the world he thought he knew is an illusion. He has to face facts fast, though because an immortal enemy is threatening the city.

Season 1 was a fun, action-filled ride. Unfortunately, Hakan gets off to an unfortunate start by doing a truly awful thing. One that is so bad, his redemption proved elusive for this viewer.

Overall as a series, it is one worth watching. It is incredibly well-produced and thrilling to watch. Season 1 showed all of the signs of being a TV show filled with tremendous promise. One that Season 2 seems primed to tap to its full potential.

Warning: Spoilers for the ending of “The Protector” Season 1 are discussed beyond this point.

The ending of “The Protector” Season 1 left viewers with a significant cliffhanger to contemplate. Leyla was murdered, and Faysal (Okan Yalabik) made his wish come true. His wife came back to life. She was not the only one.

Check out the trailer here:

As revealed in the final seconds of Season 1, Leyla is alive! Thank goodness! Her dying forever would have been a devastating twist. Thankfully, she is back among the living. As are the Seven Immortals. More on that in a minute. Leyla (Ayça Aysin Turan) appears to be more fragile in Season 1, which is a sad to shift. Albeit, it makes perfect sense. Her life has gotten turned upside down.

I really hope that Leyla does not die again. She is a highly entertaining character that would be sorely missed if lost. There was a tragic energy around her in Season 1, which ultimately came to fruition. That foreboding will hopefully be lifted in Season 2.

For whatever reason, the trailer gives the ominous sense she is living on borrowed time. That is just a feeling though. Nothing said or done in the trailer explicitly states that. That brings us to romance.

Are Hakan and Leyla really endgame? The trailer for Season 2 indicates they will be working to keep their love story alive. Season 1 hinted that he and Zeynep (Hazar Ergüçlü) may be fated for one another. Could a love triangle start to fully emerge in Season 2? Or will Leyla and Hakan continue being the focus? The second season holds the answers.

Speaking of romance, Faysal is back with his wife. As seen on the outstanding series, “Innocent,” and in the first season, Okan Yalabik is a phenomenal actor. Throughout Season 1, he played Faysal’s bereavement over his wife with tremendous gravity.

Now that she has gotten brought back to life, it will be neat to see him be able to play his dynamic with a living wife. Viewers heard a lot about their marriage in the first season. It will be interesting to see how their relationship actually plays out.

The life and times of Hakan are only going to get more complicated. His arch nemesis, Faysal, is not the only opponent he has to worry about in Season 2. Thanks to the Season 1 finale, there are more foes in store. That storyline should lead to some fresh content for “The Protector.”

During its first season, the fantasy series focused on the origin story of Hakan’s journey as “The Protector.” Now that he has a lot of that figured out, he should be able to reach new heights. As a whole, the show should be able to funnel what it established in Season 1 to break new ground in Season 2.

Joining the cast in Season 2 will be Engin Öztürk, who played Yusuf on the series “Gönül.” That series is already streaming on Netflix in its entirety if you want to check it out. Having watched the entire series, I can say that it is a great show, enthralling in every way you can imagine. A dramatic romance with genre underpinnings as a suspense thriller.

Öztürk’s Yusuf was one of three central leads in a profoundly compelling ensemble. Hence, it will be fun to see him take on this role on “The Protector.”

On the Netflix series, Engin Öztürk will be playing a man who says his “only purpose is to protect” Hakan. Zeynep sounds skeptical. However, Öztürk's character claims to be a part of a line of Protectors. Later in the promo, it seems as though he and Hakan have gotten quite close. Will that prove to be a mistake on Hakan's end? Tune in for the answers.

“The Protector” Season 2 premieres April 26, 2019, on Netflix. Season 1 is already available to watch.
