It is the question on every “New Amsterdam” fans’ minds after the NBC drama left viewers with Dr. Helen Sharpe starting a new romance, just as Max became single. So, when on earth is Season 3 coming back, and will it return in time for a fall 2020 premiere date considering the production delays wrought by the coronavirus pandemic?

As it stands, the medical drama is not among those slated to return to television this year. So, when will Season 3 premiere? NBC announced that “New Amsterdam” would be among its series to come back after January 1, 2021. That puts the life and times of the titular hospital returning during the midseason and not in the fall of 2020.

It is possibly worth noting that “This Is Us” is coming back sooner than expected. On Twitter, the show announced that it has a new premiere date. Initially set to start in late November, it is now set to premiere on October 27. Could “New Amsterdam” experience the same thing?

Filming would have to get underway first, and there is no indication that is happening based on the cast’s social media. Hopefully, that changes. The drama is one of the shows that I cannot wait to return (along with “Yellowstone”). “New Amsterdam” does feature its share of depressing storylines, which is par for the course with medical series. It has so much heart, though.

Despite the down moments, there are many uplifting, soul-invigorating stories to counteract them, including those of the romantic variety. “New Amsterdam” is not another medical drama. It really is one of a kind. If you find yourself moved by the relationships between the characters on “Cobra Kai,” the NBC show is probably a good fit while you wait for Season 3 of both shows.
