If you want to take a trip down mid-2000s memory lane with two charismatic stars, then look no further than “Unzipped.” It is the new podcast from “90210” actresses Shenae Grimes-Beech and AnnaLynne McCord. As you may recall, both starred on “90210” throughout its five-season run, which aired from 2008 to 2013. In case you were wondering, yours truly never missed an episode.

Eight years after “90210” abruptly left the air, Shenae Grimes-Beech and Annalynne McCord are back dishing all of the behind-the-scenes heat, including the details behind their own five-year “feud.” Yes. Much like their characters, Grimes-Beech (then-Grimes) and McCord had a tiff that sadly ran throughout the entire show.

In one of the first two installments of “Unzipped,” Grimes-Beech and McCord “unzip” their one-time rift from nearly a decade ago and reveal its wild-if-understandable backstory. It is a blast from television past with a twist. Like Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast, it is refreshing to hear actors talk and relate to each other.

The strong buddy chemistry between Shenae Grimes-Beech and AnnaLynne McCord makes their reminiscing incredibly easy to listen to. The duo has long since made amends, and their friendship continues to this day. To that point, McCord has periodically appeared on Grimes-Beech’s YouTube channel. “Unzipped” is a bit different from those cameos. For “90210” fans, the podcast is a peek behind the reboot’s robust curtain.

Much like “Gossip Girl” and “Pretty Little Liars,” “90210” was a guilty pleasure with a likable cast that handled teen drama storylines that took their characters into young adulthood. Shenae Grimes-Beech and AnnaLynne McCord shared the screen as Annie and Naomi, respectively. Annie was the new kid in LA alongside her brother Dixon, while Naomi was the grand dame of LA with the dynamic persona to boot.

It is interesting to hear that their portrayers went through upheaval in their relationship, like Annie and Naomi. Annie and Naomi’s “frenemy-ship” was one of (if not the) driving force behind “90210,” much like Serena and Blair’s troubled friendship on “Gossip Girl.” As you would expect with any young cast, on-screen drama spilled off of it.

Never Miss A Post!

It is a shame that the “90210” stars had to make it through the series without the bond they share now. As Shenae Grimes-Beech and AnnaLynne McCord unravel the source of their clash on “Unzipped,” they do so without naming names. They give listeners enough details to understand the feud’s beginnings while playing coy-enough to keep “90210” fans guessing.

“Unzipped” is the duo podcast that I have been waiting for in that it pairs two incredibly likable, open, and honest stars with nostalgic energy. It will be intriguing to follow where the future episodes go and what further details emerge around Shenae Grimes-Beech and AnnaLynne McCord. They are fun people in their own right. Together, they are even better.

You can check out “Unzipped” on Spotify and Apple Podcasts. I listened to it via Spotify. New episodes of Shenae Grimes-Beech and AnnaLynne McCord’s podcast premiere on Wednesdays, so you will probably want to make sure that you press that “follow” button.
