Fall's Best New TV Bets: The CW

The Flash | After last season’s 2 part backdoor pilot during “Arrow”, “The Flash” was rushed to series and so far the buzz has been encouraging. Grant Gustin (“Glee) stars as Barry Allen, a young scientist who gets the gift of super speed following a lab explosion. The accident which leads to Barry’s superpowers already occurred on “Arrow” and he has been in a coma ever since. Now he will awaken on his own show.

The CW is planning to do a crossover between the two series and fan favorite Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) will be the character conduit between the two series, a wise move. Another wise choice was casting the charismatic John Wesley Shipp as Barry’s father. Shipp portrayed The Flash on TV in the 90’s and hopefully his run will be more integral to the series than his recurring status implies. There is a lot of hype surrounding this freshman series and expectations are high. Viewers will soon discover if it lives up to it. Premieres: October 7 & Airs Tuesdays @8pm EST

Best Returning Bet: Reign | It was the best surprise of the 2013/14 season and it will soon return with its second season. The enchanting soundtrack, the teen drama and the dazzling production values are among the chief reasons to longingly await its arrival back. It is truly the closest thing to “One Tree Hill” that the CW has nowadays as the focus on sci-fi continues to dominate the network.

“Reign” found its footing after a few missteps early on, only to rise to the occasion and floor viewers every week since the first quarter of the season. With a lot of the love triangles resolved and each character finding their place on the canvas, “Reign” is poised for great things.
